Patient Engagement and Community Outreach
April 1, 2021 Update
Health system planning and funding functions of the Mississauga Halton LHIN are now part of Ontario Health, a government agency responsible for ensuring Ontarians continue to receive high-quality health care services where and when they need them.
The following information is provided for archived purposes.
The Mississauga Halton LHIN is committed to engaging patients, caregivers and community members in the planning and delivery of health care services in our region.
What do we mean by engagement?
*Patient engagement means patients, family members and other informal caregivers, and health care professionals actively collaborating to improve health care quality. This includes the many ways that health providers work with patients and families to understand their needs, and respond to them.
What are we doing?
To initiate our work, we established a standing committee of patients, family members, caregivers and individuals with lived experience in the health care system to help us to shape the work.
We are developing a program to invite people to participate in a number of different ways to provide input into the LHIN’s work.
We have also launched a roadmap that will guide us in partnering with patients, caregivers and community members across the region.
Empowering Agents of Change: A Roadmap for Patient, Family and Community Engagement in the Mississauga Halton LHIN

Mississauga Halton LHIN Patient and Family Advisory Committee
Patients, families, caregivers and individuals with lived experience in the health care system have come together as participants of the Mississauga Halton LHIN’s inaugural Patient and Family Advisory Committee.
This Committee is building upon and complementing existing patient and family engagement efforts within the Mississauga Halton LHIN. It is working to ensure that patient, family and caregiver voices and feedback guide health care planning and delivery, to ultimately improve the region’s health services and delivery of care.
The Committee joins other Mississauga Halton LHIN initiatives that are putting patients first, as part of Ontario’s Patients First: Action Plan for Health Care.
