The residents of the Mississauga Halton LHIN are generally healthier and live longer than the provincial average, and a larger percentage of Mississauga Halton LHIN residents perceive their health to be very good or excellent. However, compared to Ontario, Mississauga Halton LHIN residents do report a higher level of perceived life stress.
In terms of health care utilization, residents of the Mississauga Halton LHIN have lower hospitalization rates for most chronic conditions compared to Ontario, including Arthritis, Cancer, Congestive Heart Failure, COPD, Diabetes, and Stroke. However, there is variation across the Mississauga Halton LHIN, with South Etobicoke having the highest hospitalization rates for most chronic conditions (with the exception of Asthma). South Etobicoke also has the largest proportion of seniors, with nearly 18 per cent of the population aged 65 or older. In contrast to this in Milton, where less than 8 per cent of the population is 65 or older.
